Speakers Bios

Graham Rix - Suzuki Piano Teacher and composer
Graham's career has led him to many different environments where music and music eduction is central. As a performer he has worked extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, band member (pop) and member of Pianocircus (a six piano contemporary music ensemble). For many years he was involved in music workshops in prisons, hospices & care homes and he also worked with people with dementia, vulnerable women or others who's lives or circumstances have become challenging or compromised in some way. His work as a Suzuki Piano Teacher is now much more central to his activities and the longer term teaching relationship is something he nurtures and values immensely with his students. Following on from a move from London to Kent, he now teaches at his home in Kent or online and in addition is involved annually in many workshops in the UK and Europe.

Tessa Oakley - Suzuki Cello Teacher and Trainer

Tessa’s career in music education began as a Suzuki cellist in London and evolved into a deep commitment to teaching and nurturing young musicians. As co-founder of Cellofest, an international summer school for Suzuki cellists, she has worked to create inclusive learning environments for cellists of all ages. Her roles have included Director of Cello at the BSMA, and she currently serves as Chair of the European Suzuki Association’s Cello Committee. Tessa’s approach focuses on building long-term, meaningful relationships with her students and their families, supporting growth both in and beyond the studio.

Guillem Calvo - Suzuki Violin Teacher and Trainer

Guillem’s journey as a Suzuki violin teacher has been inspired by his own experiences as a young Suzuki student, developing into a passion for music education. His teaching spans workshops and group lessons across the UK, Europe, and online, with a focus on creating supportive, engaging environments for his students and their parents. Guillem is also a co-founder of Insight Suzuki, an initiative aimed at bringing Suzuki teachers and parents together for training and community. His teaching is rooted in fostering both musical skills and personal development, emphasizing the transformative power of consistent practice and mindful listening.
